Below is data provided by our local hosiptal systems: Whitehall, Moundview, Boscobel, Hillsboro, Wabasha, and Palmer/West Union. We feel strongly that an informed community is a stronger community.

Here are the facts.

Influenza

  • 7/8 rural patients under the age of 18 are not up to date on their flu vaccination 
  • In children, flu vaccination reduces the risk of severe/life-threatening influenza infections by 75%

COVID-19

  • Adults with at least 1 booster dose are 71% less likely to be hospitalized due to Covid-19 compared to unvaccinated adults 
  • The two-dose Covid-19 vaccine reduces the risk of Covid-19 infection by 50% in children aged 5-11
  • Less than 15% of rural patients 11 or younger have completed the initial vaccine series

Childhood Immunizations

  • 1 in 5 rural patients are completely unprotected against measles. The measles vaccine is 97% effective 
  • 1 in 6 rural patients are completely unprotected against tetanus. The tetanus vaccine is 99% effective 
  • 1 in 6 rural patients are completely unprotected against pneumococcal disease (which includes: pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis) The pneumococcal vaccine is 60%-70% effective
